Pirate Fest

October 5, 2026

Not technically part of CppCon, but it did overlap (and tends to overlap every year), and so I took an opportunity to go this year. Northglenn Pirate Fest takes place on the Friday of “Talk Like a Pirate Day”. I ended up not going to it last year for some reason, but I wasn’t going to miss it this year!

So, I ended up rounding off my week at CppCon, by putting on my most recognisable Sea of Thieves T-Shirt (The golden skull for the anniversary), jumping into a car with 4 other attendees, and attending Pirate Fest. And it was great. They were selling beer and mead. There were many pirate-themed stalls and amusements. There was a stage with various live pirate-themed bands. And EVERYONE was dressed like a pirate. It was just fantastic.

One of the more fun stalls that I visited while there sold swords, axes and various other pirate-themed weapons. And they were real. Not foam or plastic. Actual steel blades. I guess in a country where you can walk into a department store and buy a gun, buying some swords at a festival isn’t that interesting.

While waiting in line for some food, a couple of people noticed my t-shirt and we got to chatting about Sea of Thieves and how much they loved it. Then while queuing for drinks, I was referred to as “the man in the Sea of Thieves t-shirt”. So yes, it turns out that if you go to a Pirate Fest, chances are that lots of people will know and love Sea of Thieves.
