BeCpp2026 - Location and Venue

April 12, 2026

BeCpp was held in the Penta building at Howest University in Kortrijk, Belgium.

Note

Kortrijk is also known as Courtrai. This led to some confusion when we were trying to get from Lille to Kortrijk, as the train timetables showed Courtrai!

There were two lecture theatres used for the symposium: a main theatre where most talks were given, and an additional theatre beside it that hosted other talks, including mine.

The additional theatre was used to live-stream talks, so attendees could watch in a less crowded room if they preferred.

Traveling to Kortrijk was fairly easy from my perspective. We were able to get there entirely by train:

  1. Train from East Midlands to London St Pancras
  2. Eurostar from London St Pancras to Lille, France
  3. Train from Lille, France to Kortrijk, Belgium

Once in Kortrijk, it didn’t take long to find the hotel booked for the speakers; it was directly opposite the train station, which was very handy.

There were quite a few conversations among speakers and attendees about how easy Kortrijk is to access from much of Europe.

Getting around Belgium is straightforward as well. My wife and I decided to take the opportunity after the symposium to explore Bruges.

It was a fantastic trip all around!
